Standard grab hooks reduce working load limit at the contact point. The Crosby A-1338 eliminates that compromise entirely. Its cradle (saddle) design supports the chain link from below — distributing load forces across the full bearing surface rather than concentrating them at a single contact point — delivering 100% efficiency of Grade 100 chain with no reduction in WLL. For chain shortening and choker hitch applications where maintaining full rated capacity matters, the A-1338 is the engineering answer.

The clevis pin attachment connects directly to Grade 100 or Grade 80 chain slings without requiring intermediate coupling links — simplifying assembly and reducing the number of components in the rigging system. Each A-1338 is individually proof tested at 2.5× WLL with full certification, fatigue rated to 20,000 cycles at 1.5× WLL, and engineered to withstand an ultimate load of 4× WLL — performance benchmarks that go well beyond standard grab hook specifications.

Safe Use — Two Important Guidelines

When hooking back to the chain leg in a choker hitch configuration, maintain a choke angle of 120° or greater. When used as a chain shortener, minimize chain twist and ensure full engagement in the hook before applying load.
